Magnetic resonance imaging
Diagnostic Imaging Registration is located in Building A, on the first floor in the main registration.
In connection with the purchase of a new 3 Tesla Magnetic Resonance Imaging, the section dedicated to diagnostic tests has been renovated. We are expanding for you, creating new comfortable laboratories, investing in new equipment allowing us to increase the quality of tests.
Magnetic resonance imaging at Salve Medica
It is one of the most modern techniques for imaging organs and changes within them (including blood vessels). It makes it possible to obtain an image of layers of individual body parts in any chosen plane. Thanks to the test, it is possible to locate a disease outbreak of even several millimeters in diameter and obtain information on the size, shape and location of lesions.
It is particularly useful in the diagnosis of diseases of the brain and spine (it allows direct visualization of discopathy and spinal cord) and all structures that make up the joints. This method is also used as a supplementary one (after X-rays, ultrasonography, computed tomography), in some diseases of the organs of the chest, abdomen and pelvis.
We perform magnetic resonance imaging in the following areas:
- angiography with/without contrast,
- head with/without contrast,
- abdominal cavity with/without contrast,
- upper or lower limb (divided into anatomical areas) with/without contrast,
- spine (C or Th or L-S) with/without contrast,
- pelvis with/without contrast,
- reproductive organ with/without contrast,
- orbital cavity with/without contrast,
- breast,
- petrous parts of temporal bones with/without contrast,
- craniovertebral junction with/without contrast,
- pituitary gland with/without contrast,
- neck or nasopharynx with/without contrast,
- facial skeleton with/without contrast,
- paranasal sinuses with/without contrast,
Preparation for magnetic resonance imaging
In case of test with contrast, the patient should report fasting at least 5 hours before the test.
The patient should report for the test in comfortable clothes, free of any metal elements such as: buttons, buckles, safety pins, belts, hair clips, etc. No metal objects may be brought into the MRI laboratory, e.g.:
- watch,
- jewelry,
- glasses,
- non-permanent dentures,
- keys,
- payment card,
- cell phone,
- external hearing aid,
- or other electronic devices.
Due to the strong magnetic field, these items may be damaged, cause damage to the MRI apparatus or cause injury to the subject. The patient should inform the doctor before the test about having platinum, steel, etc. elements permanently in his/her body.
If similar tests have been performed before, the patient should bring the results (CD, films, description) with him/her.
Patients whose weight exceeds 120 kg are asked to call to arrange for the test: 42 254 64 09.

Frequently Asked Questions
It is very important for the patient to report fasting for the test (at least 5 hours before the test), if the test is to be performed with contrast.
The Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) test requires the absolute removal of all metal objects, e.g. earrings, safety pins, hair clips, non-permanent dentures, buckles, belts, etc. The patient should inform the doctor before the test about having platinum, steel, etc. elements permanently in his/her body. If similar tests have been performed before, the patient should bring the results (CD, films, description) with him/her.
- the test is always performed in the supine position,
- the patient does not have to undress for the test, he/she is laid on a moving table (usually on his/her back), on which he/she moves inside the apparatus,
- during the test, the patient lies still and is instructed on how to behave during the test itself,
- during the examination there is noise inside the apparatus, it is levelled out by stopwatches or headphones, which the patient should put on before the test,
- the test lasts about 30 minutes,
- in medically justified cases, in order to more accurately assess a particular area, the patient is given an intravenous contrast agent.
- pregnant patients should consult with the attending physician about the test,
- before the test is performed, the medical staff conducts an interview taking into account specific contraindications, after which it can waive the test.
We have a closed MRI apparatus. It has much better quality of imaging than an open apparatus. The test time is also shorter.
